Check out what you missed at the first ever workshop at MOTM…

Monsters on the Mountain is pleased to announce the first-ever Photography Workshop with world-renowned rock ‘n’ roll photographer Mark Weiss. The workshop will take place August 19-21, 2022, at the three-day concert in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.Chose Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, or All 3 Days.  Each day begins with a presentation by Mark talking about his illustrious career as a rock n’ roll photographer, followed by a Q&A and the photography workshop. Mark will have group discussion and improvisation to explore aspects of shooting during events. Mark will then provide one-on-one instruction before each participant will be heading to shoot the live band.

Mark will have a photography studio set up with a background where he will teach you how to direct and shoot bands in the studio with some of the artists (TBD) that will be performing at MOTM. Each participant will engage in their own photo shoot with one or more of the bands. He will then send you on assignments throughout the day, shooting band performances from the photo pit. Mark will continue providing feedback as the day progresses.  After the concert, all participants will download their images for Mark, along with MOTM to review. All photographs must be approved by MOTM before posting.

EDITING PHOTOGRAPHS

Editing your photographs is a mandatory part of the process. Mark will discuss his editing techniques and will schedule a 20-minute zoom call with you after the workshop is over to review your photographs together. Additional time will be available for a fee TBD.

ROCK SCENE MAGAZINE

After Mark has approved your selections, he will post a gallery of your photographs on RockSceneMagazine.com with your photo credit as well as the MOTM logo.

Other lenses are welcome like a fisheye or others that you may have. Point and shoots and cell phone cameras will not be allowed in the photo pit.

Bring at least 2 64GB cards for each camera. If you have a laptop, bring it with a portable 1 TB hard drive with the ability to download the photographs.

Mark “Weissguy” Weiss has traveled the globe photographing legends from Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, and Mötley Crüe to Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi and KISS. Weiss’ iconic images capture the artists onstage, backstage, and behind the scenes. He photographed historic moments including the US Festival, Live Aid, the Moscow Music Peace Festival, and the PMRC hearings in Washington, DC. His photographs have been published in thousands of magazines worldwide, including Circus, Creem, Rolling Stone, RIP, Metal Edge, Faces, LIFE, and many more.

Weiss’ inimitable photographs helped craft the visual imagery of rock and metal in the 1980s. He is responsible for two of the era’s most defining album covers, Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet and Twisted Sister’s Stay Hungry, and his coffee-table book, The Decade That Rocked, has been at the top of the Amazon heavy metal best-selling charts since its release two years ago, with over 1000 five-star reviews.

Mark “Weissguy” Weiss was 13 years old when he got his first camera. With a love for rock ‘n’ roll, becoming a professional photographer was not something that ever crossed his mind.

All skill levels are welcome, but you should have a basic understanding of your manual camera functions and the desire to learn about manual exposure mode. You must be accompanied by an adult if under 18.
